Tom Brady is still very ridiculous, which is ridiculous

Tom Brady gonna keep Tom Bradying.

This is the online version of our morning newsletter, The Morning WinSubscribe to get irreverent and incisive sports stories, delivered to your mailbox every morning.

I know by now we’re not supposed to be surprised by anything Tom Brady does on the football field.

He’s won a billion Super Bowls, he’s good at throwing touchdown passes, and the only real surprises are when he looks average.

But I’m going to throw all of that aside and just say that what he’s done in the first two games of this season has been ridiculous, even with his resume and his GOAT status and all the other stuff that can be said about his career.

Brady is 44 years old. I’m 44 years old. I know how 44 years old feels. Well, I’m pretty sure he and I have very different diets and lifestyles but still, we’re 44.

The thing that makes him so ridiculous is how easy he makes things look, especially since he’s old as you-know-what.

Brady threw five touchdown passes (and zero interceptions) in yesterday’s win over the Falcons. He now has nine touchdown passes this year, which is tops in the league and is the most he’s ever had through two games in his career.

IN HIS CAREER.

He’s 44! This is his 22nd year in the league! That’s ridiculous!

I know what you’re thinking – he’s thrown those nine touchdown passes against the Cowboys and Falcons, two teams that don’t exactly have the best defenses you’re ever going to see. And listen, that’s fine to feel that way but he’s still putting up the numbers and still doing it all so effortlessly.

Brady, of course, won his seventh Super Bowl last year in his first season with the Bucs. There were many times during that season where he looked old and lost and possibly even washed. But last year there wasn’t a normal offseason or training camp because of COVID and he was basically learning a new team on the fly and still won the Super Bowl.

This year is a more “normal” year and it appears like that is only helping Brady be Brady, which I’m sure annoys the rest of the league, as well as all the millions of people out there who enjoy rooting against him.

before I leave you here’s another crazy stat for Brady. In his 20s he had 167 TD passes. In his 40s he has 154 touchdown passes. Read that again – 154 TD passes in his 40s!

Ridiculous.

The NFL has some incredible young QBs who are going to carry this league for many years. Patrick Mahomes, Kyler Murray, and Lamar Jackson are awesome and are all must-see TV.

But Brady is still Brady and it doesn’t seem like he’s going to be slowing down anytime soon.

Which is, well, you know.

Quick hits: Lamar Jackson’s awesome TD flip… Week 2 NFL Awards… Vikings’ sad radio call… And more.

– Speaking of Lamar Jackson, his flip into the end zone during Sunday night’s thrilling win over the Chiefs led to some awesome photos.

– I have my Week 2 NFL Awards, which looks back at all the good, the bad and the hilarious from Sunday’s games.

– The Vikings’ radio announcers had the saddest reaction to the team’s missed FG at the buzzer that would have won them the game.

– Gus Johnson’s call of that missed FG was loved by NFL fans.

– The Rams’ botched punt that ended with a TD for the Colts is the weirdest play of the season so far.
