Tom Brady could have better passing stats than Cam Newton did in his MVP season

Cam Newton is going to the Patriots, but see why former Pats QB Tom Brady could end up having a season for the ages in 2020.

The New England Patriots and their fans are preparing for the arrival of former NFL MVP Cam Newton, who will look to be the starter for the Patriots in their first season post-Tom Brady.

Newton was the first overall pick by the Carolina Panthers in 2011 and took the league by storm with both his arm and legs, highlighted by his 2015 MVP campaign in which he led the Panthers to a 15-1 record and an appearance in Super Bowl 50. That season, Newton passed for 3,837 yards, 35 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, while also adding 636 on the ground to go along with 10 rushing touchdowns.

While Brady likely won’t come even close to surpassing Newton’s rushing numbers from that MVP season when he takes the field for the Buccaneers this fall, the six-time Super Bowl champion has a realistic chance of matching Newton’s passing numbers.

Brady will have a loaded offense this season with the Buccaneers with players like Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Rob Gronkowski just a few of the playmakers capable of helping Brady put up big numbers. The future Hall of Fame quarterback has thrown for 35 or more touchdowns four times during his career, with the most recent time coming back in — you guessed it — 2015, Newton’s MVP season. That year, Brady threw 36 touchdowns, one more than Newton, and had only seven interceptions. Plus, Brady has thrown for 3,900 or more yards in a season 12 times during his career.

Given the offensive talent the Buccaneers have up and down the roster, expect Brady to put up MVP-like numbers in 2020. And, if he can get this Bucs team back to the postseason for the first time since 2007, he may be in line for another MVP trophy, too.
