The Philadelphia 76ers are a team built on size and strength and it’s an asset that should lead to more free throw attempts. However, the Sixers are currently ranked 22nd in the league in attempts from the line at 21.8 per game and Joel Embiid is responsible for 7.4 of them.

Tobias Harris, who recently expressed his frustration for not getting enough free throw attempts, averages only 3.0 per game. He’s a physical small forward who can get in the paint and finish and it’s easy to wonder why he does not get more attempts at the line.

Harris wonders this as well as he stated on Tuesday:

My whole career, I haven’t able to get to the free throw line consistently, and I’ve watched film, I’ve studied how to draw those fouls and whatnot, so it’s still a work in progress. I’m not a flopper so that sort of hinders me at times, but I think we can find some more ways to get to the free throw line a bit more. Maybe that means limiting some midrange jumpers and getting all the way downhill and being more physical. We’re working on it.

Harris in his career only averages 3.1 free throw attempts and for a career 82.1% free throw shooter, it would be nice if he could get some more attempts at the line. They’re easy points and they’re called “free” for a reason.

The Sixers return home to host the New York Knicks on Wednesday. [lawrence-related id=19590,19579,19484]
