The Philadelphia 76ers have had a strong core in place for a few seasons now. Led by the All-Star duo of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, the team is in a position to contend for a title. Especially with the moves general manager Elton Brand made in putting a solid supporting cast around them.
One of those players is Tobias Harris who came over in a deadline deal from the Los Angeles Clippers in 2019. He and the Sixers were on the cusp of heading to the Eastern Conference Finals before Kawhi Leonard got every single bounce imaginable and it dropped in.
Harris recently opened up on his feelings over the shot in an interview with Yahoo! Sports:
“That shot was heartbreaking. It was on everywhere like two or three days ago [on the anniversary],” Harris said with a laugh. “I love our team. I definitely think we’re well-suited for the playoffs, and hopefully we get a chance to play. We’ll be ready for the opportunity.”
The NBA has been on hold due to the global coronavirus pandemic and that caused the league to officially suspend operations on March 11. For the Sixers, it means their season has been put on hold during their quest for an NBA championship. Every move that Brand and the team made was to put the team in a position to win a title and that is still the plan despite what is going on in the world right now.
Harris added:
“Everybody wants to be safe, so that’s the key thing,” Harris replied when asked if he has any concerns about a return. “If we can find a venue and it’s safe and we have the proper protocols in place for guys to feel comfortable, then I’m fine with it.”
There is still a ways to go to resume the season, but whenever that does happen, the Sixers will be in a good position to compete for an NBA title. Harris and the rest of his team will have to remain ready and not use the downtime as an excuse. [lawrence-related id=31579,31571,31565]
