T.J. Watt gives high praise to Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. on game-changing interception vs. Ravens

Joey Porter Jr. got his first NFL interception on Sunday in the win over the Baltimore Ravens.

The one knock on Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. coming out of Penn State was his lack of interceptions. The rest of his scouting report was elite but only one interception in a college career was less than ideal. But on Sunday, in his first major action outside of sub-packages, Porter quieted those critics by making the game-sealing interception against the Baltimore Ravens.

After Sunday’s huge win, edge rusher T.J. Watt heaped the praise on Porter for the big play.

“He didn’t have that many interceptions in college, but he’s had a ton of picks in practice, even dating back to camp,” Watt said. “A guy who’s always working with one of our team ball boys, Lou, he’s working with him before and after practice every single day, working on his hands, catching balls. Stuff like that pays off. Hard work gets rewarded.”

Meanwhile, teammate George Pickens had no clue the interception even occurred.

Porter’s play on Sunday could be enough that he supplants Levi Wallace in the starting lineup for the remainder of the season.
