Since the Tennessee Titans traded for wide receiver Julio Jones, the thought has been that the veteran and seven-time Pro Bowler would be a big help to the team’s younger receivers thanks to his experience in the NFL.
And while that remains absolutely true (the proof is in the pudding already), wide receivers coach Rob Moore believes that it can go both ways when it comes to Jones and A.J. Brown.
During media availability on the eve of mandatory minicamp, Moore said the elite duo can “help each other out a great deal” rather than it simply being a one-way street, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online.
“I think (Julio and A.J.) will help each other out a great deal,” Moore said. “And at the end of the day it is really about getting both of those guys to play at an extremely high level, so we can take advantage of some of those opportunities. I think if we develop and continue to put the work in that is going to be necessary, I think they can be a formidable tandem throughout this league.”
While there isn’t much, if any knowledge Brown can really bestow upon Jones other than Titans-specific things, the attention the Ole Miss product draws will free his idol up for more one-on-one matchups in games.
And that’s on top of defenses also having to defend against running back Derrick Henry, who will no doubt be drawing defenders into the box, creating more space for all of Tennessee’s pass-catchers.
The thought of having this trio excites Moore, who certainly isn’t alone in that regard.
“I am just looking forward to being able to step on the field (and coach) somebody like that. And you understand the problem that it causes defenses. At the end of the day, that is what it boils down for me is: ‘How do we best utilize Julio’s skill set and everything he brings?’ Having him and A.J. (Brown) on the field at the same time … and then you add Derrick Henry to the mix and some of these other guys, that is one of the things I am looking forward to the most, to see how it looks on Sundays when it counts.”
As Jones described it, the Titans have a “pick your poison” offense that we can’t wait to see in action during the 2021 campaign.
