As great as it would have been to see the Tennessee Titans rock their Houston Oilers throwbacks in Houston against the Texans in 2023, it appears that won’t happen.
According to team writer Jim Wyatt in a recent mailbag, the Titans will not wear the legendary jerseys in the same state where the franchise originated.
He also said the Titans are unlikely to wear them twice this season after he previously said there was a chance the team would rock the jerseys for one home game and one away game.
The team is not going to wear the Oilers throwbacks in Houston, at least not this year. And, after previously thinking the Titans could wear them once on the road this year, I’m not expecting that any longer. It doesn’t sound like that’s going to work out as initially hoped.
It appears wearing the Oilers throwbacks at home against the Texans is still on the table, but obviously that’s not as juicy as the alternative. Unfortunate, but at least we get to see those sweet jerseys this year.
Tennessee is set to unveil the 2023 Oilers throwbacks on Sunday, July 23 at 8 p.m. CT. We’ll have full coverage once they drop, for sure.
