With the deadline to franchise tag players falling on Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, the Tennessee Titans won’t be using theirs on outside linebacker Harold Landry, per multiple reports.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Titans hope to re-sign Landry to a long-term deal, and ESPN’s Turron Davenport notes that Tennessee has “full intentions of keeping him in Nashville.”
If that’s the case, the Titans need to get something done in the next week, as the legal tampering period for free agency starts on Monday, March 14. On that date, Landry can begin negotiating with other teams.
Tennessee’s need to bring Landry back is obvious after he led the team with 12 sacks in 2021 and played a vital role in what was a major turnaround on defense for the Titans.
Spotrac estimates Landry will make $68.4 million over four years, which is right around the $17 million per year we believe he’ll get in a new contract.
Chances are if the Titans didn’t use the tag on Landry it’s because they are very confident they can get a deal done before he hits the open market.
