Titans’ updated cap space, biggest cap hits after Simmons extension

After signing an extension with the Titans, Jeffery Simmons went from the fifth-highest cap hit in 2023 to the seven-highest.

The Tennessee Titans finally secured one of their franchise cornerstones recently when the team agreed to a contract extension with star defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons.

The deal is worth $94 million over four years and guarantees Simmons a total of $66 million. The $23.5 million annual average ranks second in NFL history at the position behind Los Angles Rams superstar Aaron Donald, while his guaranteed money is tops among interior defenders.

I initially thought Simmons’ fifth-year option price of $10.75 million would stick, but Tennessee structured his deal so that it lowers said cap hit by around $4 million.

Also, Simmons went from having the fifth-highest cap hit in 2023 to the seventh-highest, falling behind both safety Amani Hooker and defensive lineman Denico Autry.

With that factored in, Tennessee currently sits with a shade over $11 million in cap space going into the 2023 NFL draft, per Over the Cap.

Now, a look at the top 20 cap hits for the Titans this coming season.
