Tennessee Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan started last season slow and was the cause of a lot of the team’s penalties, but quickly redeemed himself as the entire team made a complete turnaround.
One area he was especially effective in during the 2019 season was pass-blocking efficiency.
The offensive lineman received high praise from Pro Football Focus as the network named its most efficient pass-blockers for the season.
Lewan found a place at third on the list with a grade of 98.5 , behind the Baltimore Ravens’ Ronnie Stanley, who posted an overall grade of 98.9, and Mitchell Schwartz of the Kansas City Chiefs, who came in at second with a grade of 98.6 in the category.

This included postseason performances among offensive tackles with a minimum of 225 pass-block snaps.
How exactly does PFF calculate these numbers, and what do they mean?
“Hurries, hits and sacks allowed all come into play for offensive linemen, as does PFF’s pass-blocking efficiency metrics, which measures pressures allowed on a per-snap basis with weighting toward sacks allowed,” PFF wrote. “The formula: 1 – (Sacks + Hits) / (2) + (Hurries) / (2) / (Total Pass-Block Snaps) * 100.”

The Titans will look for continued dominance from the former Pro Bowler — who heads into his seventh season with the team in 2020 — as they aim for another Super Bowl run after falling just one game short in 2019.
