Titans’ Ryan Tannehill posted elite first-down rate on dropbacks in 2019

Yet another impressive stat added to the list for Ryan Tannehill.

Just as soon as the Tennessee Titans replaced Marcus Mariota with Ryan Tannehill at quarterback in 2019, the offense made a sharp turnaround.

Tannehill excelled in several statistical categories, as Pro Football Focus has noted many times. One of those was first-down rate on dropbacks in 2019, where Tannehill led the NFL.

Tannehill posted a rate of 41 percent, ahead of New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees (40 percent) and Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (39 percent).

Last year, Tannehill finished out the season with a completion percentage of 70.3 percent, throwing for 2,742 yards, 22 touchdowns and just six interceptions in 12 games (10 starts) during the regular season.

He also led the league in yards per attempt (9.6), adjusted yards gained per pass attempt (10.2), yards per completion (13.6) and passer rating (117.5).

The Titans will look for this continued high level of performance from their starting signal-caller when the team gets back to football later this year.

Considering that Tennessee signed him to a four-year extension worth $118 million, it’s clear the team has plenty of confidence he’ll be guiding the team for the long term.
