Titans’ Ryan Tannehill has one of highest open target miss rates

Titans QB Ryan Tannehill has missed open receivers at one of the highest rates in the NFL.

Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been a popular topic of conversation as of late amongst the fanbase and local media.

A lot of fans are ready to start the Will Levis era, while others are still holding onto hope that Tannehill somehow magically turns back into the good quarterback he was during his first few years in Nashville.

Regardless, another ankle injury to the veteran quarterback could ultimately make that decision for the team.

One of the reasons why a lot of the fanbase is ready to see a new signal-caller under center has to do with the fact that Tannehill has regressed in basically every possible way.

He wasn’t an elite quarterback or anything of that nature, but Tannehill was always an efficient passer who was capable of doing a good enough job to win consistently. Unfortunately, those days may be in the rearview mirror.

On top of throwing just two touchdowns to six interceptions in six games, Tannehill has also uncharacteristically been inaccurate this season.

The Texas A&M product has the fifth-highest missed target rate in the NFL, throwing an inaccurate ball to an open target approximately 11.1 percent of the time, according to data analyst Shaun Newkirk.

Tannehill’s horrendous Week 1 game undoubtedly skewed these numbers a little bit, but it’s fair to say the once deadly-accurate quarterback hasn’t been connecting on throws that he normally would.

Now that the veteran signal-caller is hobbled and hurt, it could be the perfect excuse to allow someone else to take over, and preferably it’ll be Levis after seeing Malik Willis struggle in relief in Week 6.

Tennessee is on a bye week, so we’ll have to patiently wait and see what route the Titans decide to go.
