Titans’ Ryan Tannehill among ‘masters of the 2-minute drill’

Ryan Tannehill is being dubbed one of the “masters of the 2-minute drill.”

Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill had his best season as a pro in 2019, and part of that was because he was about as clutch as they come.

Recently, we shared with you how Tannehill was money against playoff teams during the regular season, as the signal-caller posted a Pro Football Focus grade of 80.8 against those squads, the third-best in the NFL.

But Tannehill also thrived in the two-minute drill last season.

His PFF grade of 72.7 in that particular situation ranked third in the league, trailing only the New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees (80.8) and the Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson (77.6).

As a result, PFF has dubbed him one of the “masters of the 2-minute drill.”

That title has a great ring to it, doesn’t it?.

Tannehill’s 2019 campaign resulted in him being ranked at or near the top of a ton of advanced metrics, and he finished his first season in Nashville as the highest-graded quarterback overall in the entire NFL (92.5).

For his efforts, Tannehill earned NFL Comeback Player of the Year and was also rewarded with a new contract worth $118 million over four years.

Despite all his success last season, Tannehill still has plenty of doubters, which is understandable given his issues with consistency in the past and small sample size of elite play.

However, thanks to the quarterback-friendly system the Titans run and the slew of weapons he has at his disposal, Tannehill has a great chance to at least come close to replicating his 2019 success in 2020.
