Titans’ Ryan Tannehill among best QBs in NFL history in one area

Only three quarterbacks in NFL history have more games with a 120 passer rating or higher and a game-winning drive than Ryan Tannehill.

Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill is undoubtedly one of the most polarizing players in the league, or at the very least, within the fanbase. His highs are often overlooked for whatever reason, while his lows can be drastically exaggerated.

Whether that’s fair or not is an entirely different conversation. Nonetheless, it’s impossible to deny that he has played a large role in bringing the team back to relevancy during what has been the most successful era of Titans football since the days of the late, great Steve McNair.

One of the most overlooked things when it comes to Tannehill is how clutch he can be when the game is on the line.

The Titans’ signal-caller obviously isn’t perfect. He definitely has some moments he would like back, but he has been a reliable presence behind center more often than not, and especially when the Texas A&M product is having a strong game leading up to the final moments of the contest.

Just last weekend, Tannehill posted the eighth game of his career in which he recorded both a passer rating of at least 120 and a game-winning drive all in the same contest.

62.5 percent of those performances have come since joining the Titans in 2019 (five of eight). Those five games are tied with Joe Burrow for the most in the NFL over that span, although it should be noted that Burrow didn’t join the league until 2020.

To add some context to how impressive those numbers are, Tannehill’s eight games with a 120-plus passer rating and a game-winning drive are tied for the fourth-highest total in league history during the Super Bowl era.

The former Dolphins quarterback is currently tied with Drew Brees (eight) while only trailing Phillip Rivers (nine), Russell Wilson (10) and Peyton Manning (10).

Tannehill has the chance to move up the list even more on Sunday when Tennessee travels to Cleveland to face a very talented Browns defense.
