Titans remain mostly silent in free agency, have yet to justify Jurrell Casey trade

Should we be worried about the Titans’ quiet offseason?

With each passing day, the Tennessee Titans’ silence when it comes to signing free agents from outside the organization becomes more and more deafening.

Until this point, the biggest move the team has made is agreeing to terms with EDGE Vic Beasley on a one-year deal, but that signing has yet to be made official, which is somewhat odd.

It’s odd because other smaller free-agent signings, like those of linebacker and special teams ace Nick Dzubnar and swing tackle Ty Sambrailo, have both been made official.

More importantly, the Titans haven’t done anything with the money saved from trading away Jurrell Casey, which is necessary in order to justify why the team dealt one of the franchise’s all-time great defenders for peanuts.

When the trade initially went down, it was suspected that general manager Jon Robinson had something big coming, but almost two weeks later there hasn’t been a peep.

It’s very possible the team has deals already done (maybe one for Jadeveon Clowney?) but the coronavirus outbreak, which has made it impossible to bring free agents in for physicals, is holding the process up.

Even if that’s the case, it’s a bit surprising nothing has leaked yet in an age where anything and everything gets out to the press.

Regardless, many in the fan base are growing worried that the Titans don’t have a plan, as more and more of the team’s depth pieces continue to jump ship for other teams in free agency.

While that is an understandable concern, Robinson has earned the right to get the benefit of the doubt that he has things in place to improve upon a defense that, as currently constituted, is worse than the unit the Titans fielded in the AFC Championship Game last season.

Could the Titans be in on one of the big-name defensive players still left on the market? Is Robinson going to be heavily reliant on the 2020 NFL Draft to fill holes? Is there any interest in bringing Logan Ryan back if his price comes down?

There’s no concrete answer to any of those questions at this point, and all we can do is have faith that the 2020 Titans are eventually going to be good enough to take that next step to the Super Bowl.
