Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry continues to turn heads at this point of his illustrious career.
The 29-year-old was among the fastest ball-carriers in the National Football League for Week 6 on his 63-yard scamper in the Titans’ 24-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Henry found a huge hole out of the “Kingcat” formation and hit a top-end speed of 20.99 miles per hour through the Ravens’ defense before being brought down inside the 10-yard line.
According to Travis Wingfield of MiamiDolphins.com, The King was sandwiched between Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill and running back Raheem Mostert for fastest ball-carriers. That’s some good company.
1. Tyreek Hill 21.35 (41-yard TD)
2. Raheem Mostert 21.27 (49-yard run)
3. Derrick Henry 20.99 (63-yard run)
4. Tyreek Hill 20.82 (11-yard reception) https://t.co/xNWgH2XWag— Travis Wingfield (@WingfieldNFL) October 16, 2023
Since entering the league in 2016, Henry has consistently been among the fastest players, which is incredible, given that he’s 6-foot-3 and 247 pounds.
According to Next Gen Stats, the Alabama product reached the fastest ball-carrier speed of 2021 on his 76-yard touchdown run against the Buffalo Bills (21.8 miles per hour).
One has to question when Henry might slow down. He’s set to turn 30 in January, which has historically been the age that running backs are on the decline of their career due to the wear and tear.
Henry is set to become a free agent following the 2023 season, and combined with the Titans’ 2-4 start to the season, he has been the subject of trade speculation in advance of the NFL’s Oct. 31 trade deadline.
We could be witnessing Henry’s final days in Nashville.
