Titans’ Rashard Davis quickly becoming a player to watch in training camp

Titans WR Rashard Davis has received some significant praise in the past week.

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Rashard Davis is one of the lesser-known players on the team’s roster, but he’s someone we all need to start paying more attention to.

Davis will be competing for one of the last spots on the Titans’ initial 53-man roster at wide receiver, a position that likely has four locks already in A.J. Brown, Corey Davis, Adam Humphries and Kalif Raymond.

Tennessee will carry at least five wide receivers on the initial 53-man roster, and it’s possible the team carries a sixth like it did last season.

Davis has received quite a bit of praise in the last week, putting him squarely on the radar to make the team out of training camp.

First, head coach Mike Vrabel announced that Davis was one of three players to receive an offseason award, which, according to Vrabel, was given to players who “showed leadership and improvement through the course of our installation.”

Then, during a Monday Zoom call with the media, Brown spoke highly of his teammate Davis, who he says is “ready to take the next step.”

From an experience standpoint, Davis, who has impressive 4.4 40-yard dash speed and has the versatility to contribute as a returner, doesn’t have much.

He spent time on the practice squads of the Philadelphia Eagles, the team that signed him in 2017 after he went undrafted out of James Madison, and the Oakland (now Las Vegas) Raiders. He was then signed by the Kansas City Chiefs in May of 2019, only to be cut before the start of the season.

Davis saw his first and only regular season game as a member of the Titans last season. In that Week 17 game, Davis returned a pair of punts for nine total yards, and he caught one pass for 16 yards on his lone offensive snap. He played a grand total of five special teams snaps.

The good news for Davis is that none of his competition for the spots on the bottom of the depth chart have much, if any experience — and certainly none of them have gotten the kind of recognition he has gotten lately, either. As a result, he’s someone to keep an eye on moving forward.
