Former Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill took the Tennessee Titans offense to new heights in 2019, sparking a turnaround after the team’s 2-4 start to the season.
Pro Football Focus named Tannehill its Comeback Player of the Year for the 2019 season — and for good reason.

After largely inconsistent play in Miami, many expected Tannehill to take a nosedive at some point — but that never really happened.
Here’s what PFF’s Sam Monson had to say about the quarterback.

“Tannehill hit a level so far above his previous career baseline it’s scarcely believable. The last time we saw him play meaningful snaps a season ago, he was the lowest-ranked quarterback in the NFL for the woeful Dolphins,” he wrote. “That was obviously not Tannehill at his best, but even his career best before that was back in 2013 in which he was 10 PFF grading points lower than he managed this season. His baseline in the first five years of his career was in the mid-70s from a grading standpoint, not the 90-plus player of this year.”
Tannehill finished out the regular season with the highest passer rating in the NFL with a 117.5, the fourth-best in NFL history, behind only Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in 2011 (122.5), Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning in 2004 (121.1), and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles in 2013 (119.2).”
He ended the year 237-of-346 passing for 3,111 yards with 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions between the regular season and the postseason.
The future of Tannehill and the quarterback position in general in Nashville ahead of the 2020 NFL season remains unclear, but should be high up on the priority list as the Titans look to make some moves.
