Titans QB Ryan Tannehill makes PFF’s Top 101 list

Tennessee Titans quarterback is likely here to stay in Nashville after recording the best season of his NFL career with the team in 2019.

It’s with good reason that he made Pro Football Focus’ Top 101 players list for 2019, finishing out at No. 61 overall.

Here’s what analyst Sam Monson had to say about placing Tannehill directly ahead of New Orleans Saints signal-caller Drew Brees and just behind Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher Brandon Graham.

“Ryan Tannehill had one of the most improbable seasons of any player in the NFL in 2019. Brought in as little more than a cheap insurance policy, he ended up rescuing the team’s season after he reversed the 2-4 start Marcus Mariota had guided them to and ultimately took them to the playoffs,” he wrote. “Tannehill ended the regular season with the No. 1 overall PFF grade among quarterbacks and had 23 big-time throws to just 12 turnover-worthy plays. Only a lackluster playoff campaign kept him from being higher on the list even though he didn’t start until Week 7.”

Tannehill ended the season with the highest passer rating in the league (117.5), also leading the NFL in yards per attempt (9.6), adjusted yards gained per pass attempt (10.2), yards per completion (13.6).

He had the best passer rating when the offense used play-action (140.6) as well, per PFF.

It will be curious to see how much the Titans are willing to pay to hold into him, or if they choose to franchise tag him ahead of the 2020 season.
