Just hours after it was reported that the Tennessee Titans didn’t plan on bringing back tight end Jonnu Smith, he ended up agreeing to terms on a massive deal with the New England Patriots.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Smith will ink a four-year, $50 million deal with New England with $31.25 million guaranteed when players can officially sign their new contracts on March 17.
We’ve said over and over again that we didn’t expect Smith back, mostly because the Titans couldn’t afford to pay him, and that was when we thought he’d get somewhere in the ballpark of $8 to $10 million annually.
However, it’s obvious there was absolutely no shot for the Titans to bring him back at that price he got from the Pats, which works out to $12.5 million annually.
After the news broke of Smith’s reported deal, several of his now-former teammates took to Twitter to share their reactions to the payday.
