Titans plan to hire Commanders’ Chris Harris to defensive staff

The Titans plan to hire Commanders DBs coach Chris Harris if he doesn’t land a defensive coordinator job.

The Tennessee Titans reportedly plan to make an addition to their defensive staff with the hiring of Washington Commanders defensive backs coach, Chris Harris.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Titans plan to hire Harris as their defensive pass game coordinator and cornerbacks coach.

However, that appears contingent on him not landing a defensive coordinator job elsewhere. That remains a possibility for Harris, who is thought of as a future defensive coordinator, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Harris has spent the last three seasons in Washington. Prior to that, he worked as a defensive quality control coach for the Chicago Bears (2013-14) and as an assistant defensive backs with the Chargers (2016-19).

The 40-year-old coach also spent eight seasons in the NFL, appearing in games for the Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers, Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars.

By all accounts, Harris appears to be a rising star in NFL circles, making this an attractive move for the Titans. It sounds like he won’t be here for long if he’s hired, though.
