Titans’ Mike Vrabel shares story behind infamous Tom Brady FaceTime call

Mike Vrabel says the FaceTime call was nothing more than a friendly conversation.

The football world was sent into a frenzy when Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel was seen on a FaceTime call with free-agent-to-be Tom Brady earlier in the offseason.

Before Brady ultimately signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, one of the most talked about potential landing spots was with Brady’s good buddy Vrabel and the Titans in Nashville, so obviously seeing the pair on a FaceTime call with Julian Edelman turned into a big deal.

Well, according to Vrabel, the FaceTime call occurred because of a text he sent to Brady and Edelman making fun of their hair after seeing the duo on television attending the Syracuse-North Carolina game, as he explained during an interview with NBC Sports Boston’s “Camera Guys”.

“Well I was at the combine, and we get CBS on TV,” said Vrabel. “We’re watching the combine, watching the guys work out. I look up there, and they’re showing Tom and Julian. So I texted them real quick. I said, ‘Hey, did you guys get highlights for the basketball game?’ Because it looked like their hair was like blonde.

So then of course they immediately are mad and so they want to like, yell at me because I texted them something funny. So they FaceTimed me and we’re sitting there laughing and talking. Jules is sitting there yelling into the phone as loud as he possibly can, and that’s how it all went down. Just like it would any other time. Just laughing and joking.”

When the call originally occurred, plenty of people thought Vrabel was tampering, as Brady was not yet officially a free agent.

As it turns out, Vrabel’s call to Brady and Edelman was simply a friendly conversation between three guys who were busting each other’s chops.
