The Tennessee Titans recently added safety Jamal Adams to the roster to shore up the position, but it turns out they may not be done there.
According to Titans beat writer Paul Kuharsky, Tennessee has been in contact with Pro Bowler and former Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons, but his price remains too high for their liking.
Tennessee has also explored signing Adams’ former teammate and ex-Seattle Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs, per Kuharsky, who concludes that the Titans might not be done adding to the position.
The Titans have been in contact with Justin Simmons, a two-time Pro Bowler who played eight seasons in Denver, but his asking price remains high. They have also explored Quandre Diggs, a free agent who was teammates with Adams in Seattle. He’s 31 and has been to three Pro Bowls.
So they may not be entirely set at the spot.
It may seem like overkill, but as Kuharsky notes, starting safety Amani Hooker has had issues staying healthy and the Titans are still lacking reliable coverage options. Adams doesn’t check that box.
Also in the article, Kuharsky revealed the plans the Titans have for Adams, and they include him playing some dime linebacker.
The team views him as a potential big nickel if the defense wants to stray from base personnel on base downs against personnel featuring multiple tight ends. He will also get chances to blitz from the safety spot and could play dime linebacker in some third-down packages.
The Titans’ rumored interest in Simmons is nothing new, but as far as I can remember there haven’t been any rumors linking the Titans and Diggs.
Whatever the case may be, it appears we shouldn’t rule out the Titans adding yet another safety at some point, and they have more than enough cap space to do so.
