To say the Tennessee Titans haven’t gotten a lot out of their last two draft classes would be an understatement, and that fact is a black cloud over general manager Jon Robinson’s head.
After reeling in an outstanding 2019 draft class, Robinson has, for the most part, struck with his last two classes thus far.
The 2020 draft class has been a disaster. Three members of that group are no longer on the team, including first-round pick Isaiah Wilson, while only one (Kristian Fulton) has developed into a starter (and a damn good one).
The 2021 draft class had a similar lack of success. One member is no longer on the team, and only Elijah Molden was able to make any semblance of an impact. Adding to that, three rookies saw their seasons end early due to injury.
Looking ahead to 2022, Robinson is hoping the yet-to-be-picked class can make an immediate impact, while also noting how the team needs the 2021 group to step up, per Ben Arthur of The Tennessean.
“We need them (the 2021 draft class). They got to be productive players for us,” Robinson said. “This year’s draft class, the 2022 class, to what degree they can help the football team? Obviously, the sooner the better. But you’re not ready to cast them aside if they’re not Day 1 out there, at whatever position they play, being an impactful player, knowing that the transition to the NFL game takes time. Our coaches do a great job of bringing those guys along. But we’re going to lean on them at some point.
“At some point, they’re going to have to go out there and do the job that they’re drafted to do.”
