Titans’ Jeffery Simmons believed to have avoided serious injury vs. Colts

Titans DL Jeffery Simmons is believed to have avoided a serious injury.

UPDATE: Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons has indeed avoided a serious injury, but head coach Mike Vrabel revealed the star defender would miss time with his knee issue (READ MORE HERE).

The Tennessee Titans lost three starters due to injury during the Week 13 game against the Indianapolis Colts, with defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons being among them.

However, there’s some good news on that front initially, as Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz reports Simmons is believed to have avoided a serious injury to his knee, although more tests are set to be done to confirm that.

Simmons suffered the injury during the third quarter of the 31-28 overtime loss to Indy. He returned to the game initially, but then exited again before going to the locker room for the remainder of the game.

It goes without saying how important Simmons is to a Titans defense that has struggled mightily this season. Big Jeff is a stalwart upfront, both as a pass-rusher and run defender.

With the Titans’ playoff hopes dead in the dirt, the team should not be rushing Simmons back, no matter how badly he wants to return.
