The Tennessee Titans hire ex-Lions coach Jim Schwartz as defensive assistant coach

Former Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz is returning to the place where he catapulted up the coaching ranks. Schwartz has been hired by the Tennessee Titans as a senior defensive assistant coach.

Schwartz spent eight seasons with the Titans (2001-2018) working on their defensive staff before coming to Detroit as the head coach in 2009. His famous Wide-9 pass rush alignment took hold in Nashville and he successfully imported it with him to Detroit for his five seasons as the Lions head coach.

The intensely competitive Schwartz had been the defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles for the last five seasons. He also had a year running the Buffalo Bills defense after his time in Detroit. earlier this offseason, the 54-year-old pondered retiring from coaching. Joining forces with Mike Vrabel is apparent;y enough to keep the coaching fire burning.
