Tennessee Titans General Manager Jon Robinson joined NFL Network’s Good Morning Football to discuss how contract talks are going with former Alabama running back Derrick Henry.
Henry’s initial rookie contract ended after the 2019 season. The franchise then agreed to pay the former Heisman-winning running back almost $10.3 million for a one-year deal that will expire after the 2020 season.
The two sides are actively working on a long-term deal that will keep Henry in Tennessee for years after the upcoming 2020 season.
During Robinson’s interview, he mentioned that the franchise would like to have him be a Titan for a while.
“We want Derrick around here for a long time,” says Robinson.
The talks are ongoing, as Robinson mentions. However, the two sides have yet to reach an agreement that will keep Henry with the team after 2020.
“We continue to have back and forth with his representation… but it’s about finding a common ground,” says Robinson
There’s no doubt Henry has been an important member of the Titans offense. Many questioned the team’s front office after agreeing to a contract with quarterback Ryan Tannehill before Henry.
Many credit Henry for Tennessee’s success in 2019, as well as the team’s playoff run which came to an end after losing to the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
“He’s an important part of our football team,” Robinson says as he concludes the interview.
