For the first time since being eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Tennessee Titans great Eddie George is one of the semifinalists among modern-era nominees.
George is one of 26 semifinalists for the Class of 2022. The list will be whittled down to just 15 before the Hall of Fame’s 49-person Selection Committee picks its five, which will take place prior to the Super Bowl.
The results of that vote will be shared at the NFL Honors show, which will be broadcast on Feb. 10 at 9 p.m. ET.
George, a former No. 14 overall pick of the Houston Oilers in the 1996 NFL draft, spent eight seasons with the franchise, first playing for Houston before the team moved to Tennessee.
In that span, he became one of the greatest players in team history.
The running back was a First-Team All-Pro, four-time Pro Bowler, and the 1996 Offensive Rookie of the Year, all accolades that show he was one of that generation’s best at his position.
George is the franchise’s all-time leader in rushing attempts (2,733), yards (10,009) and is third in rushing scores (64) behind Earl Campbell (74) and Derrick Henry (65).
George was a member of the Titans team that went to Super Bowl XXXIV, a game Tennessee narrowly lost. In four games that postseason, George tallied 108 carries for 449 yards and three scores, while also adding 10 receptions for 72 yards.
Overall, George finished with seven 1,000-yard seasons during his nine-year career, including five campaigns of 1,200 yards or more. He totaled 1,500 or more total yards four times.
