The Tennessee Titans are expected to get one of their offseason signings back in practice this week.
Head coach Brian Callahan indicated that cornerback Chidobe Awuzie is expected to return as soon as this week, as Broadway Sports Media’s Easton Freeze reported from Sunday’s press conference.
However, the Titans are not planning to have him play in the team’s preseason finale in New Orleans. The 29-year-old has been sidelined with a calf injury since the first week of training camp.
Awuzie signed a three-year, $21.75 million contract in free agency after spending the last three seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. He, along with L’Jarius Sneed, was brought in as part of sweeping changes to the Titans’ defensive backfield this offseason.
Assuming no setbacks, Awuzie appears to be on track for Tennessee’s regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.
With the veteran sidelined, the Titans have gotten an extended look at Tre Avery, Jarvis Brownlee Jr., and Gabe Jeudy-Lally, among others.
