The Tennessee Titans are one of three unbeaten teams left in the NFL after six weeks following their epic 42-36 overtime victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday.
The Titans have been teetering in the top 10 of the power rankings of USA TODAY’s Nate Davis for weeks now, but was this effort enough to move them up into more elite company?
It in fact was, as Davis placed the Titans at No. 3 in his power rankings after Sunday’s action, which is up four spots from where Tennessee was last week.
Here’s what Davis had to say:
3. Titans (7): Some notes on Derrick Henry. Over past three regular seasons, there have been six 200-yard rushing efforts … three by Henry. Four players have three career games with 200 rush yards and two TDs – Henry … plus Hall of Famers Jim Brown, Barry Sanders and LaDainian Tomlinson. And Henry’s only the fifth to have two touchdown runs of at least 90 yards. Dude is special.
Now that’s more like it.
The other two unbeaten teams are ahead of Tennessee, as the Pittsburgh Steelers sit at No. 2 and the Seattle Seahawks reign supreme at No. 1.
Davis’ full top 10 is as follows:
- Seattle Seahawks
- Pittsburgh Steelers
- Tennessee Titans
- Las Vegas Raiders
- Kansas City Chiefs
- Baltimore Ravens
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Green Bay Packers
- New Orleans Saints
- Buffalo Bills
We have things slightly different in our own power rankings, with the Titans landing at No. 2 and the Steelers landing at No. 3. We see eye-to-eye with Davis about the Seahawks being No. 1, though.
Interestingly enough, we’ll find out who really deserves to be ahead of the other this Sunday, as the Titans and Steelers will meet for a Week 7 showdown to determine who sits atop the conference after six games.
If the Titans can emerge victorious and the Seahawks lose to the Arizona Cardinals, we could see Tennessee atop these rankings going into Week 8.
