The 2020 NFL season, like all other social aspects of society in the United States, had long been in doubt due to concerns surrounding Covid-19. Then the first month of the season went off, largely without a hitch and the thought of games being cancelled moved to the back burner as what happened between the lines took center stage.
Turns out any celebration may have been premature. First, Atlanta cornerback A.J. Terrell of the Atlanta Falcons tested positive for the virus and now there’s been an outbreak with the Tennessee Titans that’s resulted in suspension of operations for them and their Week 3 opponent, the Minnesota Vikings.
The #Titans had three new player positives and five new personnel positives for COVID-19, sources tell me and @MikeGarafolo. Both Titans and Vikings, who hosted them Sunday, will suspend in person club activities starting today.

Given the close quarters that teams function in on a daily basis and the nature of the sport itself, this will be a concern for the remainder of at least this season. Teams across the league have access to an endless supply of tests which should help quell a major outbreak, but this is a sobering reminder of the season balancing on a knife’s edge.
So far, the Dallas Cowboys have yet to have their season affected by Covid-19, though running back Ezekiel Elliott did suffer from it during the offseason.
