Titans break NFL record for most players used in a season

Four of the Titans’ newest additions saw the field in Week 12, leading to Tennessee breaking an NFL record.

The Tennessee Titans were just two shy of the NFL record for most players used in a season going into their Week 12 contest against the New England Patriots, and they successfully broke that record on Sunday in a losing effort.

With four of the Titans’ new additions seeing the field — cornerback Buster Skrine, defensive lineman Kevin Strong, wide receiver Cody Hollister and quarterback Kevin Hogan — Tennessee is now up to 86 players used.

The previous record of 84 was set by the 2020 San Francisco 49ers and the 2019 Miami Dolphins. And, Tennessee has a great chance to further that record with five games left on the schedule.

The other five teams in the top six on the all-time list finished with losing records. Tennessee could break that mold, as it currently sits with an 8-4 mark and needs one more win to secure a winning campaign.

Looking ahead to Week 13, the Titans will get a much-needed bye to rest up. After that, Tennessee will host the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 14 in a game that will hopefully see the return of some of the Titans’ walking wounded.

Despite the loss, the Titans maintained their two-game-plus-tie-breaker lead over the Indianapolis Colts, who lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, 38-31.

However, Tennessee has been knocked off its top-seeded perch in the AFC The Titans will go into the bye as the No. 2 seed if the Baltimore Ravens lose on Sunday night, but will fall to as low as No. 3 with a Ravens victory.
