Titans’ Andrew Adams talks notching pick-six vs. Colts

Three years after nearly getting his first defensive TD against the Titans, Andrew Adams got his first defensive TD as a member of them in Week 7.

When the Tennessee Titans signed defensive back Andrew Adams to their active roster last month, it was thought he would be just another warm body in the revolving door that has been Tennessee’s secondary depth this season.

However, little did we know Adams would end up making a huge impact that Titans fans won’t soon forget.

Not only did Adams finish tied for the team lead with 10 tackles, three of which helped set the tone early for the defense, he also notched his first career pick-six in the second quarter.

The play proved to be huge, as it accounted for seven of Tennessee’s 19 points on a day in which the offense couldn’t get anything going in the winning effort.

“I was able to get vision on Matt Ryan, and I saw him look to my right,” Adams said, per David Boclair of Sports Illustrated. “I got a good break, and I was looking at the quarterback. He kind of threw inside the receiver so I was able to get my hands on it. And the rest was history.”

Adams’ outstanding showing came on a day in which he saw increased opportunities.

The veteran defensive back got the starting nod at safety with the team trying something different and deploying safety Amani Hooker in the slot. It’s hard to argue with the move, as Tennessee’s secondary was much improved on Sunday, with a lot of help from the pass-rush, of course.

Interestingly enough, Adams nearly had his first defensive touchdown back in 2019 in a game against the Titans while he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but it didn’t end up standing.

“Actually, in 2019 — playing the Titans — I scooped up a fumble to score a touchdown, but they reviewed it and said it wasn’t a fumble,” Adams explained. “Actually, [the league office] came out the next day and said it was a fumble. So, they should have let it play.

“They actually robbed me of my first touchdown — the Titans. And now, I got my first touchdown with the Titans.”

Adams has now gone from just another dude making his way through the Titans’ roster to a name many Titans fans will never forget. At the very least he has earned the right to continue getting increased looks moving forward.
