With the Feb. 10 trade deadline approaching, the Philadelphia 76ers are at the forefront of conversations and rumors given they have one of the more coveted stars on the market, Ben Simmons. The 25-year-old has not played for Philadelphia in the 2021-22 season.
As the deadline approaches, plenty of rumors will fly, but it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
One potential suitor is the Minnesota Timberwolves, who have been consistently mentioned in the Simmons rumors. They want to team him with Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards. The only problem is the Sixers want a top 25 player in return for Simmons, and they are the only players on Minnesota’s roster that fit that description. The Sixers are reportedly content to wait until past the deadline to get what they want for Simmons in the offseason.
Per ESPN’s Brian Windhorst on the podcast “The Scoop with Doogie” (h/t to HoopsHype):
From what I understand, the Wolves have pretty much offered every asset package they could possibly offer for Ben Simmons, except for Anthony Edwards and Karl Towns.
The issue with this plan is the Timberwolves don’t have much to offer outside of those two that would satisfy Philadelphia’s high asking price for Simmons. D’Angelo Russell is a good player, but he doesn’t fit the description of what the Sixers are looking for.
