Timberwolves excluding Towns, Edwards in Ben Simmons trade talks

Minnesota has been viewed as the team that most wants Simmons but is unwilling to include Karl-Anthony Towns or Anthony Edwards in talks.

With the future of Ben Simmons uncertain, the Minnesota Timberwolves have reportedly emerged as a prime candidate to land the Philadelphia 76ers guard.

The Timberwolves have been viewed as the team that most wants Simmons and have been in communication with the Sixers on potential trade scenarios. However, the team is unwilling to include Karl-Anthony Towns or Anthony Edwards in those negotiations.

The Sixers believe they can contend for a championship and are seeking players that can help them win now. They view Towns and Edwards as those pieces but Minnesota isn’t willing to move them, according to Jon Krawczynski on “The Athletic NBA Show” podcast.

The Timberwolves don’t want to trade Anthony Edwards or Karl-Anthony Towns. Those are deal-breakers and they really would rather not trade D’Angelo Russell.

Philadelphia has set the bar rather high to acquire Simmons but there hasn’t been much interest from teams around the league. The latest reporting by The Athletic said the Sixers may eventually lower the asking price for Simmons, which could open the door for the Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves hold Simmons in high regard and believe he would be a good fit next to Towns, Edwards and D’Angelo Russell. It remains to be seen if the two teams can strike a deal but it may be worth monitoring as the 2021-22 season nears closer.
