Another New England Patriots player has opted out of the 2020 season. Tight end Matt LaCosse made the decision on Sunday, becoming the eighth member of the team to do so.

LaCosse recorded 13 catches for 131 yards and a touchdown in the 2019 season.

The Patriots made the tight end position a priority in the 2020 draft. In addition to focusing on defense, they selected tight ends Devin Asiasi and Dalton Keene.

Now, Asiasi and Keene could have the opportunity to play an even bigger role in the offense. With the addition of quarterback Cam Newton,  the tight end position certainly has a chance to be involved in the offense.

It will be interesting to see who steps up in LaCosse’s absence. In what is becoming a theme for New England, it will be up to others to fill the void.
