LSU ended the regular season on a high note, taking down rival Alabama at home to avenge a loss in Tuscaloosa earlier in the season. For a Tigers team that had come up short in several recent opportunities to earn a Quadrant 1 win, the victory over the Crimson Tide was much needed.
The win solidified an already strong NCAA Tournament case for LSU, which now has six Quadrant 1 wins on the season. And in the latest bracketology update from CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm, the Tigers rose two seed lines from No. 7 to No. 5.
Now, LSU is in the East Region slated to take on No. 12-seeded North Texas in the first round. A win in that matchup would likely set up a second-round matchup against No. 4-seeded UCLA. Baylor is the top projected seed in an East Region that Palm also has featuring three-seeded Duke and a conference foe in two-seeded Kentucky.
As far as the rest of the SEC goes, Palm still has Auburn on the one-seed line in the Midwest, while Tennessee remains a No. 3 seed. Arkansas is listed as a No. 4 seed, while the Crimson Tide are a No. 6 seed. Florida, who was a part of the Last Four In in Palm’s previous prediction, has fallen out of the projected field after a loss to the Wildcats and is now among the First Four Out.
LSU will look to boost that projected seed line even further with a couple of big wins at the SEC Tournament in Tampa this week, where it will be the league’s No. 5 seed.
