As LSU gets set for its final game of 2020 against Ole Miss on Saturday, the Tigers defense has a tough task facing them.
The unit vastly improved in the upset win over Florida last weekend, despite giving up 34 points to the Gators. This week, LSU welcomes in an Ole Miss team that has offensive firepower at every position.
Quarterback Matt Corral has consistently hung around in the top-three of the rankings, and is bound to have another solid showing Saturday.
So what can the Tigers do to stave off the Rebels? Here’s a look into the two most important defensive keys to a Tigers victory on Saturday.
Contain Matt Corral
Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral is 186-of-255 passing this season for 2,744 yards with 24 touchdowns and four interceptions.
On the ground, Corral has carried the ball 88 times for 311 yards and sits third on the team in rushing.
LSU’s defense has to contain Corral not only in the pocket, but on the ground as well.
The Tigers have seen dual threat quarterbacks a few times this season. While Corral will be the final one for 2020, this is the biggest test.
If Corral gets going with both his arm and his legs, the Rebels could run away with the game.
Since LSU is not playing in a bowl this year, earning a win to get to 5-5 and close out the season with a .500 record would be huge for the program in looking ahead to 2021.
