The USA TODAY Coaches Poll wasn’t quite as forgiving to the Tigers as the AP Poll.
While the AP Poll had the Tigers move up three spots to No. 20, the coaches’ poll has Auburn staying around the same area. Auburn came in at No. 23 in the new poll on Monday, moving up just one spot from its previous ranking even after a big win against the Washington Huskies, 84-61.
Like the AP Poll, the Tigers started the year at No. 15 but have dropped drastically in the aftermath of losses to Memphis and USC. Auburn is set to begin its stretch on SEC play on Wednesday, a conference with six ranked teams — Auburn, at No. 23, is the lowest ranked of the group. The first team the Tigers will play on the poll is Arkansas, the highest-ranked SEC team — the two squads will face off on Auburn’s home court. The Tigers will have two unranked SEC teams in Florida and Georgia as a way to gauge their strength before then.
