Tiger Woods ended what should have been a solid opening day at the punishing U.S. Open with a costly blunder, and it’s been all downhill from there for the three-time U.S. Open champ.
Starting on the back nine, Woods carded four consecutive birdies to open his second round, and then went on a horrible 11-hole run, carding five bogeys and two double bogeys over that stretch. Woods fell below the projected cut line with a bogey at the par-4 16th hole, and proceeded to plummet down the leaderboard from there. He hit just four of his first 11 fairways, and Winged Foot’s extremely thick rough made it nearly impossible for Woods to recover from poor tee shots.

Woods told reporters before the tournament began that Winged Foot was likely one of the two hardest courses in the world alongside Oakmont – and he clearly wasn’t exaggerating. Woods did manage to finish with two birdies in his last three holes to card a 7-over 77 on Friday, leaving him 10-over par for the tournament and four shots below the cut line.
From rough to sand😭😭😭apparently this is a 'driveable' par 4… pic.twitter.com/LQsLYawNA9

This would be the first major championship venue where Tiger Woods has missed the cut more than once. He WD'ed as an amateur at Shinnecock in 1995; missed cut in 2018.

You guys can check out for the rest of the day. And granted this hasn’t gone like we’d wish, but I’ll continue tracking the defending Masters champion anyway. pic.twitter.com/Hv3NBO9xkM
