While a lot of members of the Washington Huskies 2025 recruiting class spent their weekend on Montlake watching their future team take down the No. 10 Michigan Wolverines, three-star commit Caleb Smith had other plans.
The 6-foot-5, 265-pound product of Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama, took an official visit to Memphis. Coach Ryan Silverfield and the Tigers offered Smith a scholarship in February and hosted him for an unofficial visit in late March.
Memphis got off to a hot start in 2024, starting 3-0 before falling 56-44 to Navy, getting back on track on September 28 with a 24-7 win over Middle Tennessee. With an open week on their schedule, the Tigers brought Smith back to campus for an official visit, which isn’t the first time Silverfield has battled coach Jedd Fisch for a prospect this year.
After he was committed to Washington for just five days, left tackle Chris Adams decided to flip his commitment to Memphis, where he now starts at left tackle for the Tigers.
While it appears Smith, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 104 defensive lineman by 247Sports, is still firmly committed to Washington, this will be a battle worth monitoring all the way until signing day on December 4.
