Three-star edge rusher Devin Hyde becomes Washington’s first defensive commit

The Washington Huskies added three-star defender Devin Hyde to the 2025 class on Tuesday.

The Washington Huskies added their first commitment on the defensive side of the ball on Tuesday following three-star edge rusher Devin Hyde’s announcement. He picked Jedd Fisch’s coaching staff over 13 other offers including California and UCLA, which also hosted him on official visits before he made his decision.

Hyde, whose mother is a Washington graduate, has a long relationship with the school and was re-offered by defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi in February after initially receiving a scholarship offer from Kalen DeBoer’s coaching staff in June 2023.

“It was a really big emotional decision and I definitely felt that way about so much of what Washington football is,” Hyde said on the Locked On Huskies podcast. “My mom was there in the 80’s and even back then, if you went to UW or you were from Seattle, you went to the games. That’s how it is. There’s this attitude towards Washington football where they’re so passionate for it and I just love that so much.”

Ranked as the No. 53 edge rusher in the 2025 class by 247Sports, the 6-foot-5, 225-pound Hyde has a projectable frame and has a lot of room to develop into a top-tier run defender. Under the direction of Kaufusi, he could also turn into a solid pass rusher.

“Hyde could make his living as a run defender. He is excellent at flowing to the ball and understands pursuit angles in a way younger players do not,” Huskies Wire’s Ben Glassmire said. “His non-stop motor keeps him involved with every play and allows him to rack up tackles. With some added mass and strength to his frame, he could easily dominate reps from the edge rusher position.”
