It didn’t take long for three-star athlete Julien Horton to make a decision after his commitment. And he’s now a Tar Heel.
Horton de-committed from Maryland on Sunday after visiting North Carolina, signaling that a commitment could be looming. On Thursday, Horton officially made the flip as he committed to North Carolina, giving Mack Brown and his staff another commitment for the 2025 class.
The 6-foot, 175-pound Horton had 20 offers in his recruitment, originally committing to his home state program Maryland. But North Carolina didn’t let up in the recruitment and the persistence paid off as they eventually landed their target.
104% Committed.

Horton is ranked No. 897 nationally, the No. 78 safety, and No. 22 player in the state of Maryland per the 247Sports rankings.
The Horton commitment is the 11th for North Carolina in the 2025 recruiting class which ranks No. 41 overall per 247Sports. The Tar Heels still have a lot of big targets in the class and it’s still VERY early in the recruiting process, so we expect them to add more.
