KNOXVILLE — The COVID-19 pandemic may have the 2020 baseball season on hold but that does not mean players are sitting idly around.
Three former University of Tennessee baseball players, now playing professionally, with strong ties to the Knoxville Area are making an effort to help those on the front lines in the battle against the coronavirus.
Kyle Serrano, Lane Thomas and Nick Senzel recently donated gift cards to doctors and other staff members at UT Medical Center.
Serrano, the son of Cal State Northridge and former Tennessee head coach Dave Seranno, is a pitcher in the Houston Astros’ organization.
The Farragut High School graduate and former UT pitcher has spent time with the GCL Astros and with the Tri-City ValleyCats of the NY-Penn League.
Thomas is a Bearden High School graduate and plays for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Senzel, another Farragut product and college standout with the Diamond Vols, burst on the scene as a rookie with the Cincinnati Reds last season.
