The Rams waived Jonah Williams earlier this week, which was a move that didn’t generate much buzz among fans and media members. After all, he only played 96 defensive snaps for the Rams and made just five tackles.
But it turns out he was a hot commodity on the waiver wire. Field Yates of ESPN reported Thursday that three teams attempted to claim Williams: the Vikings, Bengals and Chargers. The Vikings were awarded their claim thanks to their 3-4 record, but Cincinnati and Brandon Staley’s Chargers tried to scoop him up, too.
New Vikings DE Jonah Williams, claimed off of waivers from the Rams, was a popular player on waivers as both the Chargers and Cardinals also attempted to claim him. Minnesota (3-4) had highest priority.

Williams joined the Rams as an undrafted free agent last year and spent the 2020 season on the practice squad. He made the 53-man roster this season and played in all eight games with the Rams but he was cut to make room for other positions where the depth was thinning.
