Three reasons why the Texas Longhorns lost to Iowa State on Friday

The Texas Longhorns lost a game on Friday afternoon that they just couldn’t afford to. A primary reason being the head coach Tom Herman.

In the fourth quarter with the Longhorns leading 20-16, the head coach found himself in a situation deep in the red zone. Ehlinger ran the ball on third and three that set up a fourth and two. Instead of opting for the field goal attempt with eight minutes left in the game, they went for it. They came up short on fourth down and the ball went to Iowa State.

That would have put them up by seven. They had success in limiting the Iowa State offense all game long. Just four minutes later, the Longhorns would once again have an opportunity to eat clock and win the game. Texas called a run play that went for four-yards and then back-to-back passes that fell incomplete. They stopped the clock for Iowa State and punted after going three and out. Iowa State took over with three minutes remaining and scored the go-ahead touchdown.
