After going 50 years between Super Bowl appearances, the Kansas City Chiefs are going back to the Super Bowl for the second consecutive season after a 38-24 win over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC championship.
Much like in Tampa Bay’s win over Green Bay in the NFC championship, a number of former LSU stars played pivotal roles for the Chiefs in the win.
Fourth-year running back Darrel Williams, who went undrafted out of LSU in 2018, led the Chiefs with 52 rushing yards and scored a touchdown. Williams’ role has increased in recent weeks due to the injury to fellow former LSU star Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who returned after missing several weeks with an injury.
Speaking of Edwards-Helaire, he also got in on the scoring action, scoring on a one-yard run in the second quarter to give the Chiefs a 21-9 lead.

Kansas City took care of Edwards-Helaire, playing in his first game since Dec. 20. He will likely play a larger role against Tampa Bay in Super Bowl LV.
Safety Tyrann Mathieu made his presence felt for the defending champions, too. Mathieu finished the game with six tackles, and a quarterback hit, but his presence in the secondary helped negate Buffalo’s previously explosive downfield passing game.
No college will be better represented in the Super Bowl than the LSU Tigers, with six players on the field.
The Buccaneers and the Chiefs will meet in Super Bowl LV on Feb. 7.
