Three different Pennsylvania bettors turned 50 cents into more than $130,000 each

A six-player parlay net a 260,000% return on investment.

A 50 cent bet that pays out six figures and hits is rare. Three of them in the same night? That’s downright ridiculous.

Yet that’s exactly what happened in Pennsylvania Wednesday night.

Three different bettors submitted a six-leg parlay at +26,056,700 odds. They picked six players to be the first basket scorers across six different games. That included:

  • Lakers forward LeBron James (+370)
  • Rockets big man Christian Wood (+450)
  • Knicks guard/forward Evan Fournier (+700)
  • Hornets forward Gordon Hayward (+900)
  • Hawks forward Bogdan Bogdanovic (+950)
  • Cavaliers forward Lauri Markkanen (+1100)

Against all odds, all six paid off — thanks in part to a near two-minute scoring drought to start Cavs-Jazz — to deliver a $130,284 return on a 50 cent wager.

It’s a stunning confluence of bets that turned a throwaway wager into a down payment on a house (or, at least, a down payment on a house in 2015). And three people got it exactly right. Layer upon layer of unlikely events turned this into a giant onion of a payout, and now three bettors in Pennsylvania are about to have serious opinions on the way gambling wins are taxed.

Wild.
