There was no doubt that Minnesota Vikings needed to win in Week 16.
The Vikings came into the matchup vs. the Saints with just a 2% chance of making the postseason. That meant winning against the Saints and Lions, in addition to the Cardinals losing out and the Bears splitting their last two games.
Well, Minnesota didn’t just lose to New Orleans; the Vikings were blown out. According to the Star Tribune, a Minnesota defense had never given up 583 yards before Friday when the unit did just that. It has also been since 1963 when an opponent scored as much as the Saints’ 52 points, per the Star Tribune.
Not only that, but Saints running back Alvin Kamara finished with six rushing touchdowns. Minnesota coach Mike Zimmer didn’t seem too thrilled with his defense after the game.
“Yeah, this is a bad defense,” Zimmer said, via Courtney Cronin of ESPN. “Worst one I’ve ever had.”
