This mock draft still has Kyle Trask as a first-round pick

The Gators had a rough weekend, but The Draft Network still believes Kyle Trask could sneak into the first round of the 2021 NFL draft.

The Saints will have to address the quarterback position at some point. Kyle Trask is the type of player that should likely be selected later in the draft, but could sneak into Round 1 due to the nature of the position.

This is an especially interesting prediction, considering The Draft Network penned a piece in November detailing the case against Trask’s first-round candidacy.

However, it’s not as though the site has changed its tone on Florida’s offensive spearhead. It’s not as though Trask has shaken off concerns about his arm strength and scheme flexibility in recent performances. On the other hand, quarterback-needy teams sometimes talk themselves into taking a player who might not otherwise be drafted as highly because it’s so tough to get a serviceable pass-thrower on an affordable deal.

Of course, there’s always been reason to believe Trask will find a niche at the next level. He has an especially developed feel for manipulating defenders and he functions well in an offensive system designed for frequent passing. It’s still too early to read the tea leaves too intensely when it comes to the NFL draft, and with droves of possible permutations, there is still a path for him to land in the first round.
